Both scars and stretch marks can cause embarrassment and distress, especially if they’re very noticeable. For these treatments, the award-winning ResurFace Erbium: YAG and SmartXide CO2 technology can be utilised to combat your problem area.

With the very best technology, we can both reduce the redness and the appearance of scars and stretch marks with little to no downtime. Together we can formulate a treatment plan to help you love the skin you’re in.

Scars and Stretch Marks Key Facts:

  • The normal healing process in human tissue results in a scar.
  • Scars occur at the site of tissue damage and appear as firm red to purple fibrous tissue that over time usually becomes flatter and lighter in colour.
  • There’s a strong association between genetics and whether or not you get stretch marks
  • Stretch marks are more common with women. However, both men and women can develop stretch marks anywhere on the body.

Can we answer?
You will no doubt have lots of questions...

Let us try to answer a few questions for you below but please do book in with us for a consultation.

Minute sections of the skin are targeted with laser light, which penetrates into the tissue, causing small columns of thermal damage which in turn stimulates significant collagen renewal. The surrounding nonaffected areas of skin aid the body’s natural recovery process, allowing dramatic results without significant downtime.

ResurFace treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, reduced pore size and improvement to scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks.

The SmartXide treatment is suitable for both men and women and can significantly improve the appearance of the skin. The first step in treatment involves a thorough consultation to assess your concerns and ensure you are suitable.

The skin is cleansed and the handpiece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typical treatment times vary depending on the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled. Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment.

You will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a few hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2 to 3 days. As the healing process occurs, your skin may have a ‘bronzed’ appearance that lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level. Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may flake as if you had mild sunburn.

Skin redness, swelling and the bronzing appearance described above are all expected outcomes of treatment. Other unwanted effects are rare but can include a small blister or temporary change to skin pigmentation, such as a darkening of the skin.

Prior to treatment you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained to confirm suitability. Before proceeding with treatment you will also be asked to complete a consent form.

Our award winning ResurFACE treatment works by treating minute sections of the skin, which stimulate significant collagen renewal in the treated area. The surrounding non-affected areas of the skin aid the body’s natural recovery process for dramatic results without significant recovery time. As the new collagen cells replace the old tissue the scars reduce in appearance.

Our SmartXide laser emits light in a pixelated fashion to your skin creating small columns of thermal injury to the epidermis (top layer of skin) and dermis (second layer of skin). This small amount of injury to your skin tissue stimulates the process of collagen remodelling and promotes elastic tissue formation.

With ResurFace we often advise a series of 3 to 6 treatments for optimal results and we do find that results continue to improve for months after treatment. Treatment is carried out every 4 to 6 weeks but your laser clinician will advise the optimal frequency during your consultation.

With the SmartXide number of treatments required is dependent upon the exact type of treatment chosen. The SmartXide offers a ‘Soft Laser Peel’ and a ‘Deep Laser Peel’. A Deep Laser Peel delivers the greatest improvement for lines and wrinkles and loss of elasticity and requires the fewest treatments. However, the downtime post-treatment is longer. Typically, only 1 session is needed, though some people do opt to repeat treatment after six months for further improvement. Milder treatments will require follow-up sessions after 4 – 6 weeks.

A warm sensation is felt during treatment which is found tolerable for most clients. We also use a skin cooling device throughout the treatment which can reduce discomfort.

Side effects are rare but could include a small blister which is superficial and would heal within a week or two. Some clients do experience darkening or lightening of the treated skin which is usually temporary and fades over the following months.

We will provide you with aftercare instructions. Please refer to this for guidance. In the case of a deep peel, you may wish to arrange for a few days off work. It is best not to apply make-up for a few days. It is also important to avoid prolonged sun exposure and you should apply sun protection (minimum SPF 50) every day, whatever the weather.

It takes about 30 minutes to treat the full face. However, some pre- and post-treatment care is required and you will need to be at the clinic for about 2 hours.

This varies depending on the intensity of your treatment. You can experience nothing other than mild redness for a few hours, or, in the case of a very deep peel, up to several days of downtime. This downtime may include redness and a feeling similar to sunburn. With a deep peel, it is also normal to experience swelling, particularly around the eyes. Swelling may be present for up to 4 days after treatment. For the first few days following treatment, your skin will form a ‘micro-crust’ and will have a bronzed appearance. The skin will also feel quite tight and it is im-portant that your skin does not dry out (using Vaseline will help to avoid this). The length of downtime will vary depending upon the density and depth of the treatment. We will carefully discuss your treatment goals and expected downtime during a consultation.
